Deborah Terhune is a consummate real estate professional who understands the varied considerations and intricate negotiations that go into the purchase or sale of Manhattan apartments. Over the years, she has been responsible for residential sales greater than $150 million, real estate development projects of over $250 million, and commercial, retail and residential leasing in excess of 2 million square feet. This market expert brings to your transaction the diverse knowledge and impressive track record that truly sets her apart.

Deborah guides each of her Manhattan real estate clients seamlessly to success because she understands their undertakings from all perspectives. After 30 years in the business, she will not only capably handle the myriad of details and financial and legal implications associated with your deal, but will seamlessly ease the assortment of concerns and emotions involved in buying or selling your luxury home.

Inspired by an early passion for development projects, Deborah began her 30-plus-year real estate career in her home state Pennsylvania where she converted 14 historic buildings for residential use. Her great achievements, such as the Distinguished Mayor’s Award for Restoration and Conversion of Historic Properties, Outstanding Young Women of America Award for her urban renewal work, and recognition from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives paved the way for her consulting roles in the acquisition, disposition and leasing of properties of all kinds. Having experience in virtually every aspect of real estate has fueled Deborah’s specialized knowledge and hands-on approach to your needs. Coupled with her seasoned insight is a warm demeanor and commitment to service and integrity that endear her to property buyers, sellers, investors and developers alike.

Deborah has enjoyed prominent positions at major New York-area development firms such as Muss Development where she oversaw a 4,000-acre property development, and Time Equities Inc. as project director for a substantial co-op conversion in New York City. In 1995 she catapulted to international success with her own company, Development Consulting (Pty.) Ltd in South Africa, utilizing her business acumen to fill a vital role in the real estate market of a fledgling new democracy. Deborah was later appointed General Manager of South Africa’s leading luxury residential real estate company, Engel & Voelkers, an affiliate of Christie’s Great Estates, where she lent her leading-edge knowledge of the U.S. and international markets and experience in residential brokerage, finance and market analysis to discreetly handle complex transactions for an exclusive sophisticated clientele.

Capitalizing on her vision to bring her expertise to New York, Deborah chose to join Edward Lee Cave, a renowned specialist in the city’s luxury market. Today at Brown Harris Stevens, she continues in her mission to raise the bar in excellence and service for a discerning Manhattan real estate clientele. With serving others her main focus, Deborah has also made time to give back to her community, raising funds to build a church in Oshakati, Namibia, as a founding member of the Allentown Preservation Association and longstanding member of The Urban Land Institute, as an active participant in numerous other charities, and as facilitator of the collaboration between the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the new Museum for African Art in New York City.
